In the 5th single off of the Empire Mates State Of Mind album, the EME crew introduces one of their newest and most talented acts “ShayDee”, and he’s adequately supported by Skales and Banky W, as they tear through a rendition of the smash hit “Sun Mo Mi“.

The song was co-produced by MasterKraft and Banky W and video directed by the prolific Clarence Peters.

“Nigerians are Refused American Visas because they have not Visited Other Countries” – US Vice Consul

 

Everyday, hundreds of Nigerians apply for Visas to foreign countries for different reasons – better standard of living, employment opportunities and the most commonly used “in search of greener pastures”. However, a large number of these applicants are refused visas for different reasons.

The Vice-Consul, United States Consulate, Lagos, Christopher Richardson, has said that with regards to the United States of America, many Nigerian applicants are refused visas because they have not visited other countries.

Punch reports that he said this yesterday at a seminar on the ‘American Visa Regime: the role of lawyers’ organised by the Immigration Lawyers Forum in Lagos.

“The majority of the visa applicants prefer the US as their first outing. This creates doubt, especially when the applicant has not visited any other countries before.”

Richardson said applicants were also rejected visas because of the kind of answers they give to test questions during interviews.

“When a question, such as ‘do you have a relation in the US?’ Most often, they are quick to say ‘yes’, which of course, is in order. Such an answer creates doubt that since the person has a relation, there is every tendency that the person may not want to come back. So visas can be rejected on that ground.”

He also said that Nigerians were among the countries with highest number of visa rejections.

His responses put Nigerians in a tight position. To obtain a visa to America, one stands a better chance if he or she has visited other countries. What if one has no intention of visiting other countries and just wants to go to America for valid reasons? And the part of having relations in the US is also interesting. Nigerians, with our history of overstaying our visas have reversed what was supposed to be an added advantage in the visa application process. Now they think we probably won’t come back to our country because we have relations in America. How sad.

Rest in Peace. Pioneer Nigerian Designer Remi Osholake of Remi Lagos has passed away

Very sad news this evening, renowned Nigerian designer, Remi Osholake of Remi Lagos is dead.
Details are not confirmed but the designer reportedly died from Uterine Cancer (Endometrial Cancer) or Ovarian cancer which was just diagnosed in October 2012. She was reportedly receiving treatment at a world class medical centre in London.

Remi has been a fundamental part of the Nigerian fashion industry for over two decades. Her signature kaftans were best sellers and she showed at fashion shows all over the world.

She was 51 years old.

One of Remi's closest friends, fellow designer, Adebayo Jones posted this short but moving note on his Facebook page

THANKING YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND PRAYERS
Sadly my dear friend who has been in hospital treatment for Cancer, whom most of you have prayed for and sent goodwill messages has passed away moments ago.
I am still in shock. I just don't get it how someone can be diagnosed and be gone within two weeks.
I saw her on Thursday and she was in a very delicate state which greatly distressed me the whole night and Friday. I really did wish there was something I could have done.
This morning just about 12 Noon I was praying for another Friend going through an operatiion as I write, and I spent the rest of the time praying for my dear friend Remi and pleading God's mercy.
Got the message just after I finished praying.
May her soul find perfect peace AMEN.

You have left a big mark that can not be easily equalled. It's been quite a while and a blessing knowing you since 1987 just after returning from England to set up your first outlet Freaky Designs..
