Dana Airlines resumed operations on Thursday with its first flight taking off from Lagos to Abuja.
The flight with Registration No. 9J0359 took off from Lagos at about 4.15 p.m. ahead of its inaugural flight scheduled for today. The airline’s operation had been suspended after the June 3, 2012 crash involving its MD-83 aircraft traveling from Abuja to Lagos.
A few passengers were seen purchasing tickets earlier in the day when the airline opened its ticketing counters. The cost of a one-way ticket to Abuja from Lagos was N14,400.
According to reports, Dana Air Corporate Communications Manager, Tony Usidamen on Wednesday said that VIPs, journalists, celebrities and political figures will be among the first set of travelers.
“The airline, which was adjudged the best in the country before the ill-fated plane crash, will have to rebuild confidence among weary Nigerian travellers.”
However, staff of the airline at the ticket counter declined to answer questions.
As a result of this development, the number of domestic airlines operating in the country has increased to five. The airlines are Arik, Aero, IRS, Med-View and Dana.
